Calling Rammohan Roy a father of modern India is not an exaggeration. Apart from his scholastic works, he was the person who dedicated his life to abolishing the notorious Sati system in the Indian subcontinent with the active support of Lord William Bentinck and saved the lives of several Hindu widows then and now.
