Gene and I did a number of concerts together in Europe under the banner of the "European Jazz All Stars." He's one of the most gifted performers on trombone with whom I've had the privilege of playing. There is a picture of us on stage at my web site, WWW.TONYHOROWITZ.COM. Our careers, prior to meeting up in Europe, were like a children's game of "chase." After he left Johnny Otis, I joined Otis briefly, subbing for Freddy Hill. After Connors left Ray Charles, I took over as Ray's lead trumpet player. Gene also had a Rolls Royce that he would rent out, with him driving of course, for special occasions, such as weddings, etc. Connors is a delight, and a national treasure. TONY HOROWITZ
