In einem aktuellen Artikel des Belfast Telegraph wird der momentane Kommandant des Schiffes Martin Quinn mit der Aussage zitiert, daß die HMS Caroline definitiv als Museumsschiff in Balfast verbleibt. Für die nahe Zukunft wird sie offiziell Teil der Royal Navy bleiben, bis ihre Zukunft gesichert ist. Eine Verlegung nach Portsmouth (wie ursprünglich im Artikel ausgesagt) war definitiv nur Gegenstand von Spekulationen. --Ironclad 13:27, 8. Jan. 2010 (CET)
- Du solltest mit dem Begriff Spekulationen vorsichtig sein, denn der gute Martin Quinn scheint ein offizielles Statement des Verteidigungsministeriums nicht mitbekommen zu haben. Zitat von Baroness Taylor (MoD) vom 15. Juli 2009: "We are exploring with the National Museum of the Royal Navy whether it would be willing to assume responsibility for the ship, not as a commissioned warship but as a historically important example of naval power from the World War I." [1] Das ist also mehr als pure Spekulation. Es mag sein, dass Martin Quinns Aussage korrekt ist und die Navy es sich inzwischen anders überlegt hat, aber da es bislang keine offizielle Stellungnahme von RN oder MoD gibt (und soweit mir bekannt ist auch noch keine endgültige Entscheidung getroffen wurde) ist seine Erklärung mit Vorsicht zu genießen. Bekanntermaßen erfahren die Besatzungen der Schiffe nicht unbedingt als erste, was mit ihrem Schiff passieren wird. --Albion 19:41, 8. Jan. 2010 (CET)
- Ergänzung: Aussage von Lord Drayson (MoD) im House of Lords am 12. November 2009: "Following the Answer given by my noble friend Lady Taylor to the noble Lord on 15 July (Official Report, col. WA224), and recognising the unique heritage value of HMS “Caroline”, the trustees of the national museum of the Royal Navy have agreed to broker a heritage solution to the ship's future. This process will take some time, but I would hope to be in a position to announce the plans for the ship in the spring. In the mean time the ship will remain in the commission of the Royal Navy." [2] Das klingt nicht unbedingt danach, als würde sie in Belfast bleiben und unterstreicht, dass eine endgültige Entscheidung erst im Frühjahr fallen wird. --Albion 19:53, 8. Jan. 2010 (CET)
