Hallo. We are from the german Wikipedia from the sociologic section, We want to know the reason(s) why someone wrote a song about Wikipedia. It is not so much about the content of the song but in general, why you wrote that song.

Hi! I'm the author of en:WP:If you're anxious for to shine. I wrote it for one of English Wikipedia's "podcasts" (online "radio", more or less), Not the Wikipedia Weekly, for a joke episode that was full of songs, parodies, and silliness. Unfortunately, that episode is evidently stuck in editing hell, and it's uncertain when it will go live.
I don't know how much you want to hear about the song itself, but, well, probably easier to have it all, and then just ignore what you don't need. I'm one of the major editors of Gilbert and Sullivan articles on English Wikipedia, so choosing a Gilbert and Sullivan song was pretty obvious. "If you're anxious for to shine" (from Patience), while not one of their best-known songs, is still pretty high up there, is a lot of fun to sing, and, as it's already satirising the aesthetic movement, it's pretty easy to adapt it to satirise other things - The science fiction author Isaac Asimov used it to satirise himself, for instance.
I don't know how well the content of it translates to German Wikipedia - my German is not good enough for me to contribute much beyond the occasional image here. Briefly, the first verse is poking fun of over-use of shortcuts to policy pages - it's not uncommon for people to write things like "That seems a bit WP:POINTy, but I will AGF" - except that after doing that for a while, there's a tendency to start leaving out the links, so any newbie trying to understand policy points is met with all these acronyms and abbreviations. Oh, and KNOWING the acronyms too soon is considered one of the signs you may be a sockpuppet. =)
Wikipedia founder Jimbo Wales is much more active on English Wikipedia than any of the others, that's probably all you need to know about the second verse. The third verse is made up of common troll tactics I've encountered.

Not enough Tupac on Wikipedia. The man was a visionary, and we need to have some pieces as gritty as the raps he wrote. Wikipedia is great and all, but we have some real shit behind the scenes. I was planning to write another based on Hit Em Up, but I don't intend to have Wikipedia Review on my shoulders. I wrote a couple of the earliest Wikipedia parody songs, Hotel Wikipedia and Web Encyclopedia Song. I've always liked singing, and as long as I can remember, even as a child, I'd make up lyrics to familiar songs. I think that a lot of children do that, and they find it very funny because they're turning something "real" into something silly, and they know that it's silly. I just kept on doing it, so I end up creating parodies of songs for almost anything I do, even just singing to my dogs around the house (which is also silly, of course). Sometimes a song just pops into my head where the lyrics are very close to what I am experiencing with a certain activity, and they just need to be adjusted a little here, a little there. The advantage to making a parody is that people already know the tune and they already have a sense of what the song was about originally, so some of that emotion is carried over into the parody. But that's a deep, introspective examination of why maybe I do it. Really, like everyone else, I did it because I was spending a lot of very serious hours on wikipedia (a lot of hours) and it's just plain fun to create something that makes me laugh and might make other people laugh, too. --Elf 75.18.174.245 20:42, 21.
