Officially named "Ancient Siva Temple" by ASI, this small temple is in Payar (Payer) village about 14 kilometers southwest of Avantipora. A 10th to 11th-century small temple, it has a square plan sanctum in the sarvatobhadra style (open on all four sides). It is yet another illustration of pre-Islamic era trefoil stone arches, but one which is among the best preserved in Jammu and Kashmir. The roof is pyramidal and has two tiers. The lalatabimba are prominent on all four sides – one shows Lakulisa, another Nataraja, third shows Sadashiva, fourth shows six armed Natesa. Inside the sanctum is a Shiva linga.
This is a JPEG format plan and architectural drawing of a historic Indian temple or monument. The relative scale and relative dimensions in this architectural drawing are close to the actual but neither exact nor complete. The plan illustrates the design and layout, but some intricate details or parts of the temple may not be shown. In cases where exact measurements were not feasible, the drawing uses best approximations and rounds the best measurements feasible.
