Eleuthère Paul du Pont (1887-1950), founder of Du Pont Motors, was a scion of the Du Pont family and a co-heir to one of the world's largest chemical corporations. He started manufacturing automobiles in 1920 in Wilmington, Delaware, as a hobby, at the Spinx Motor Car Co. plant, which had previously gone bankrupt. Francis Irénée Du Pont (1873-1942) was an American chemist, inventor, stockbroker and manager of the E.I. du Pont de Nemours Company.
